How We Manufacture Transformer Components

Transformer hardware is a current-carrying job first and a machining job second.

Copper spades, studs and terminal connectors are CNC machined from copper for conductivity; bushing metal parts and terminal bodies are cast in bronze and gunmetal on our sand casting and shell moulding lines, then machined to final dimensions.

Contact faces are held to +/-0.01 mm (10 microns), because joint resistance and therefore operating temperature follow directly from the flatness and area of that face.

Grade selection

Copper for current paths, brass, bronze and gunmetal for bushing and terminal bodies.

Casting or bar preparation

Sand cast and shell moulded bodies, or copper and brass bar.

CNC machining

Turning, milling and drilling of contact faces, bores and mounting features.

Finishing

Deburring and any specified plating, which is in our scope.

Assembly

LV-HV and terminal connector assemblies built and checked as a set.

Inspection

Calibrated dimensional check and material verification before dispatch.
